The Lady Pioneers held off Dr. Phillips 46-35 Tuesday in the Class 9A, Region 2 semifinals to march on toward what it hopes will be a second trip to the state tournament in Lakeland in as many seasons.

Senior center Anijah Grant scored 13 points, and sharp-shooting senior Jasmine Quarterman dropped in 12 to top Dr. Phillips in the third meeting between the district foes.

Next up, the team travels to Haines City for a Friday night tip-off with the host school. The game will begin at 7 p.m.

Haines City defeated Port Pierce Central 50-43 to improve to 26-2.

Haines City features 5-foot-8 guard Fujika Nimmo. She is averaging 26 points per game.

This is the second straight season that the Lady Pioneers have reached the regional championship game. Last year, the Lady Pioneers defeated Central 66-51 at home but lost 65-44 to Spruce Creek in the state semifinals. Spruce Creek then won the state championship game. Haines City lost 60-56 to Central last season in the regional quarterfinals.
