The girls’ junior varsity soccer team took on the University Cougars which resulted in an 8- 0 loss for the Lady Pioneers. Despite the blowout loss the players fought through injuries and stayed on the field despite noticeable limping and difficulty while playing.

During the game, several players were injured, and one had to leave the field.

At halftime, head coach Kenneth Gibbs told the girls that he needed them to push through the pain while players rotated onto the field.

“My girls played their very best and we will start to rebuild from this defeat,” said Gibbs.

Gibbs was proud of the girls’ performance but some players felt that there was more they could have done to contribute to a win.

“It was frustrating game because you needed to be quicker and more precise with every move you make,” said junior defender Vanessa Lopez.

Sophomore defender Jannelys Burgos said “I felt like I could’ve done more to help the team from letting the other team score and it was pretty bad since we could’ve won that game,”

The desire of the players to improve after this game could be the pushing force to drive the girls into a win. The next game will be at home against Cypress Creek Wednesday.
