Oak Ridge heads into the district tournament at Freedom High School with a 23-4 record after defeating East River 80-50 Friday at home. Emmitt Williams had 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers.

Oak Ridge is the top seed in the tournament and earned a first-round bye. The Pioneers won nine straight games, most against local teams, before falling to Boone. Oak Ridge bounced back against East River, but the Boone loss shows that the team can be defeated.

Coach Steve Reece said that the Boone’s loss was “Just what the team needed,”. He went on to say that “the game proves that we can’t just slack off and expect wins,”.

No. 2 seed Dr. Phillips enters the district tournament with a 17-7 mark. Dr. Phillips lost to Oak Ridge 78-70 in January.

Oak Ridge will face Cypress Creek(10-11) on Wednesday 7:30 PM. The Bears has gone 2-4 against district teams this season and lost to Oak Ridge 81-52 in January.

Update as of 2/14/17
