Senior Marcus Taylor etched his name into the record books Monday with an epic six-touchdown game in Oak Ridge’s 58-30 road win against Freedom.

Taylor set the school record for touchdowns in a game with four TD catches, one rushing touchdown and a 96-year kick off return TD.

“I have a knack for finding the ball. I’ll do anything to get it in my hands,” Taylor said. “I’m a smart player, too. I know what my opponents’ moves will be before he makes them. And I adjust to that.”

Taylor’s feat owes much to the arm of teammate Malik Davis, who threw for five touchdowns and 340 yards on 14-of-27 passing. Davis, who also rushed for 65 yards, connected with Taylor for scores of 8, 90, 5 and 27 yards.

Taylor has received some scholarship offers from Division II schools, but he hopes his well-publicized six-touchdown game will garner him some attention from Division I colleges.

For now, though, Taylor said he’s focused on helping his team reach its goals. Last year, the Pioneers lost to Olumpia in a game that left players disgusted.

“(Olympia’s players) came out pretty disrespectful, and we haven’t forgotten that. We’re ready for the rematch. We’re hungry and we’re more experienced. We’re ready to kick some butts,” Taylor said.
