Stranger Things begins with the supernatural disappearance of 12-year-old Will Byers from Hawkins, Indiana in 1983. He vanishes from his home after a gruesome Dungeons & Dragons battle with his friends Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Lucas (Caleb Mclaughlin) and it takes a devastating toll on the community.

The town’s police department, led by an alcoholic sheriff, does little to no help and Will’s friends decide to conduct their own search for the missing boy. During the search, they befriend Eleven, a young girl with a shaved head, hospital gown, and telekinetic superpowers. Together, they unite in a quest to find their missing friend.

They encounter many obstacles in finding Will, especially in the government facility that is responsible for studying Eleven’s powers. The show is full of thrills and suspense that take you through the emotion endured by each character. Stranger Things is a sci-fi, supernatural, and horror series that exceeds its reputation. You will find yourself glued to Netflix after watching the first episode.

One of the greatest achievements of the production is the accuracy of the 80’s theme that the story takes place in. The quality of the production makes it feel like we have been transported back in time. The fashion, hair, decor and electronics portray the time period’s aesthetic to a T.

The series has received amazing ratings and reviews because of the dedication put into it. The time and thought behind the show prevail throughout. The little details and personal touches from the actors connect the already thrilling series.

“[The] second season is going to be really intense because Eleven and the people that gave her the powers are after her [are going] to use her for bad things,” said junior Joshua Modeste, a dedicated fan,“Sensational, can’t wait.”
Needless to say, the best part about Stranger Things is the marvelous cast. It consists of Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, 1988) playing Will’s distressed mom and Millie Bobby Brown insightfully portraying Eleven. Everyone does a stupendous job of embracing their characters’ background and bringing them to life.
