Boys Varsity Soccer Drops Close Game to Freedom

The boys varsity soccer team, the No. 1 in the metro conference, faced one of the top teams in the county, the Freedom Patriots, on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Freedom had only recorded one loss coming into the game.

The Patriots get up on the board first, scoring a goal with about 25 minutes into the game.

The Pioneers answered Freedom on a goal scored by senior Noventher Novembre on a penalty shot to tie the score at 1-1, ending the first half.

“We basically just stayed focus [in the locker room during halftime],” senior left back Lavelle Cook said. “We never got hot. Never got too high with the highs or too low with the lows.”

Starting the second half, the Patriots scored within 10 minutes, making it 2-1.

The Pioneers would fail to score the rest of the game, losing only the third time this season.
