Boys basketball team makes district run

The boys varsity basketball team is well on its way to claiming a district title this season, a tall order for a team who has to defend its run to the state title game last season. As of Dec. 12, the  team has a total of six wins and three loses. On Dec. 18, the team added another win against Colonial High with a score of 66-56.

Head coach Alex Jackson, in his seventh season of coaching, feels the team is very promising.

“The team is working hard at progressing and getting better every day,” Jackson said.

Players to look out for are senior Devante Lewis, averaging nine points and five rebounds a game. Also, junior Marquel Willis, who is ranked No. 17 in the state, averages 24 points and seven rebounds a game.

Lew is sure the team will make a return to the state title game.

“The way we’re (playing) now, we’re going back to how we were [ranked] last year,” Willis said.

The team takes on University High School, Friday, Dec. 21. The varsity team hits the court at 7 p.m.
